Museum at the Ritz Theatre

United States, Florida, Jacksonville, North Davis, 829

About the company:

The Ritz Theatre in Jacksonville is located in the Laville neighborhood, often referred to as South Harlem, for its rich traditions of African-American culture. The history of this aspect of the cultural life of Florida is widely represented in the exposition of the museum at the theater.

The museum was opened in 1999. As in any theater museum, it presents materials dedicated to performances and actors of the theater - posters, stage costumes, elements of scenery. However, a feature of the museum is an exhibition dedicated to the study of the black culture of the South of America.

On an area of more than eleven thousand square meters there are photos, documents, audio and video installations, giving an opportunity to get acquainted with the cultural history of African Americans of Jacksonville from segregation to the present day. Visiting the museum will allow you to better understand the lives of ordinary talented people in the face of social injustice and racism. The museum often becomes a venue for concerts and conferences.
