Kahanamoku Beach in Waikiki

Hawaii, USA

Description:

Kahanamoku Beach is located in the very south of Waikiki, Hawaii. It got its name in honor of the famous swimmer Duke Kahanamoku, who took first place at the Olympics, held in 1912. The beach is considered the founder of modern surfing, because it is thanks to him that Hawaii has become a favorite place for swimmers from all over the world.

Kahanamoku is 1.5 km long and 25 meters wide. Right next to the water grow tall palm trees, creating a pleasant shadow in which tourists usually escape from the scorching sunlight. The local infrastructure is quite well developed - there are restaurants, cafes and nightclubs nearby. Fans of outdoor activities can swim on sailboats, kayaks and canoes, as well as scuba diving.

Not far from the beach there is a monument to Duke Kahanamoku, and next to it there are unique wisdom stones, which are a Hawaiian shrine. According to local legend, they were brought to the island by Tahiti priests, and they contained a huge mysterious power. These stones are believed to protect the beach and the island as a whole.
