Furnes Creek Valley
Death Valley, Death Valley, CA
Description:
There are no cities in Death Valley National Park. The only settlement is in Furnes Creek in Inyo County. In 2000, there were only 31 residents, most of them employees and the administration of the park. Here is the main office and the only surviving colonial building Ranch Resort - a villa one of the first gold miners. There is also a golf course located in the lowest part of the continent.
For several centuries, the only indigenous population of these places was the tribe of the Timbish Indians. After the foundation of the national park, part of the territory of their residence joined the reserve. But despite such a long stay, it was not possible to establish a permanent settlement here. A tribe of 300 people continues to live in the vicinity of the park and only 50 people permanently reside in Furness Creek.
Furnes Creek is the only stronghold of civilization in Death Valley. All tourists, before going to the desert, buy everything necessary here. The settlement has a gas station and a visitor center where you can get instructions and maps. On the outskirts of the city there are several convenient campsites.
