Mount Whitney
Description:
Mount Whitney is the highest peak in the Sierra Nevada. It occupies the first place in the so-called list of “California Fourteen Thousanders” – twelve peaks of the United States, whose height exceeds 14,000 feet. At an altitude of 2548 m on the slope of the mountain ends popular in the state of Ultramarathon Badwater, which passes in the Valley of Death through the most difficult area of the landscape. The climb to the top is also popular with tourists, but is limited to the period from May 1 to November 1.
Climbing the mountain is also limited in number. Narrow trails have almost no sites for convenient parking, so those who wish are placed in two camps. Outpost Camp is the closest to the foot and is located in a wooded area near the waterfall. The second camp is located on a wind-blown mountain ledge, next to a water source. Usually, the climb takes 2-4 days, but some aim to overcome the path in one day.
At the foot of the mountain you can often find a baribal bear, which often go out at night to the parking lots of tourists to find something edible. Therefore, in the national park, everyone is given mandatory whistles to scare away animals and special containers for food.
