Lassen-Volcanic National Park

Redding, California

Description:

Lassen Volcanic National Park is located in the most sparsely populated part of California. The territory of this significantly small reserve is represented by a mountain volcanic landscape and several valleys. Among other national parks of the United States, it stands out for the atypical landscapes and terrain.

Thousand kilometers of the Cascade Mountains belt is notable for its dormant volcanoes. They are active and can wake up at any time. Lassen Peak volcano last erupted in May 1914. During the eruption, it completely changed the surrounding landscape for many kilometers around, completely destroying all vegetation. The mountain, more than three thousand meters high, actually burst from the inside, dotting everything around with debris of rock, ash and lava flows. Now the volcano is dormant and recovering, ready to wake up at the most unexpected moment.

In the valley of active volcanoes, the most popular place for camping and overnight stay is Lake Summit. All hiking trails and climbs originate here. After a cycle of eruptions, nature is gradually restored, but always in the most unexpected and seemingly safe place you can stumble upon cracks and dips, from which hot sulfur vapors, frozen lava flows, inconceivably preserved imprints of human traces, old destroyed craters, at the bottom of which only ash. Near Lake Emerald and Bampas Hal is a valley of hot springs.
