Redwood National Park
Description:
There are plenty of places in California that amaze tourists with their alien landscapes. And although the most popular of these is Death Valley, there is another national park that became the setting for the final two episodes of Star Wars. Redwood National Park attracted the director not for its desert landscapes and Martian mountains, but quite the opposite. Among the green forests of huge Redwoods appeared the planet Endor.
Redwood Park was founded on 23,500 hectares by President Lyndon Johnson on October 2, 1968. To avoid intensive logging and protect age-old trees, three national parks were combined - Jededee Smith, Del Norte and Prairie Creek. A little later, realizing that this is not enough and on private lands already begins erosion of soils in felling, it was decided to add to the park another 400 hectares of Redwood Creek.
Sequoia is recognized as the tallest tree on Earth. Individual specimens reach 150 meters in height and about 10 meters in diameter. They grow very slowly, and in some parts of the park there are groves that are more than 1500 years old. But besides the giants in the park there is something to see. There are 400 species of birds, among which are incredibly rare bald eagles, which are not found anywhere in the world.
