Monastery of St. Herman of Alaska
Northern California, near the settlement of Platinum.
Description:
Monastery of St. Herman of Alaska in Platinum (Northern California), where the famous ascetic and missionary Hieromonk Seraphim (Rose) asceticized. The monastery is a few cells scattered along the slope of a wooded mountain. In the center is a temple in honor of St. Herman of Alaska. The living conditions of monks are very harsh, there are almost no "goods of civilization" here. Water is extracted from the well, the cells are heated with ordinary wood stoves.
Northern California is a completely different nature and climate than in the south of the state. The first frosts occur in November.
The monastery still retains a manual printing press, on which in the 70-80s of the last century monks printed spiritual literature. Not far from the temple, behind the well is the tomb of Father Seraphim (Rose).
