Coronado Island
Coronado, California, United States of America
Description:
Coronado Island is about five miles from downtown San Diego. This area is considered one of the most expensive places in California to live - even a small house with two bedrooms here costs more than a million dollars. In addition, Coronado is one of the largest resort centers in the United States. In 1888, a comfortable hotel opened here, which made the island famous. It was here that the filming of the famous film “Only Girls In Jazz” took place, and here Frank Baum came up with the main idea of the book “The Wizard of Oz”.
Coronado has preserved the spirit of antiquity, which is especially noticeable during walks through the picturesque streets, but gradually it is overgrown with cute modern villas. The local beach is among the best beaches in the United States. The sand here seems golden, thanks to the huge amount of brilliant minerals, and on one of the stretches of the beach you can see huge boulders. At first glance, they seem chaotically sketched, but in fact, the stones make up the word "CORONADO", which is clearly visible from space.
On the island of Coronado there is a base of the American naval special forces "Sea SEALs", who are trained here, as well as a naval air base. Among the attractions of the island is a bridge more than three kilometers long, built in 1969. It connects Coronado to downtown San Diego. From here there are picturesque views of the evening city, and from the west coast - a beautiful panorama of the ocean.
