Hough Dome Rock

USA, California, Yosemite National Park

Description:

Yosemite National Park is considered one of the most beautiful in the United States. Numerous artists and photographers have glorified its views, making it the most popular natural screensaver for the desktop of our computers. Three million tourists annually come to Yosemite to admire the famous valley and other famous natural attractions.

Tourist routes and trails cover only 11% of the total area of the park, the rest is a protected wilderness. Most of the park consists of granite and sedimentary rocks, which, under the influence of erosion, formed unusual elements of the landscape - progenital columns and pillars, semicircular canyons and gorges and domed folds. Hough-Dome is a perfect example of the latter.

Its granite dome is located at the eastern end of the Yosemite Valley. The granite crest with a height of 1444 meters is the most famous landscape of the valley. This image is depicted on the series of 25 cent coins of the United States and on the modern driver's license of the state of California. In 1875, George Anderson was the first to climb the mountain, making a dangerous ascent that was previously considered impossible. Today, there are several climbing routes available in the summer. About a thousand tourists storm the Haf Dome daily.
