San Jose Museum of Art
110 S Market St, San Jose, CA 95110, USA
About the company:
The San Jose Museum of Art was founded in 1969, but is actively working to replenish its collections. The main concept of the museum is a combination of contemporary art artists of the Pacific coast of America and the pioneering spirit of Silicon Valley. It is the only museum in San Jose accredited by the American Association of Museums. Only 750 of the 8,000 museums in the United States have received such recognition.
The old wing of the museum building was built in 1892 in the city center as a post office, then was used for a long time by the city library, and in 1969 it housed the Fine Arts Gallery. In 1973, the building was included in the National Register of Historic Places. The new wing of the museum, which houses the main exhibitions, was built in 1991.
The museum’s collection includes more than 2,000 works: paintings, sculptures, engravings, photographs and drawings, as well as digital works of multimedia and installations. Here are the works of the famous abstract expressionist Philip Gaston, interesting works by Bill Viola, sculptures of horses made of fragments of metal, wood and plastic Deborah Butterfield and many others.
