Public Library in Kansas
Kansas City Public Library, 14 W 10th St, Kansas City, MO, USA
Description:
Kansas Public Library is located in the heart of the city and literally amazes many tourists with its original architecture. The building of the Public Library has become a real pride of citizens, and the implementation of this project has become one of the most important steps towards the formation of a small provincial town and turning it into a prosperous metropolis. The facade of the library, resembling a bookshelf, at first glance causes a feeling of optical deception or photomontage.
The Public Library was established in Kansas in 1873, and from its earliest days it became a cultural center that combined not only educational resources, but also became a kind of entertainment institution of the time. Throughout its history, the public library changed its address several times until it moved to the old First National Bank building in 1999.
With the move to the former bank building, a new stage in the life of the library began. During the reconstruction, a new facade was created, which is logically called the Book Shelf. This makeshift shelf consists of "book" roots about eight meters high, completely covering one of the walls of the building. Here are 22 books that were selected based on the preferences of readers. This is a unique project of the Public Library, which stretches for a whole quarter.
