Mormon State Historical Park

500 E Washington Ave, Las Vegas, NV, USA

Description:

Mormon State Historic Park is included in the National Register of Historic Places. On its territory is the Old Fort of Mormons - the first building built by Europeans, which was the beginning of the development of Las Vegas.

The first Mormon settlers arrived on June 14, 1855, and chose a site to build a fort along the river. The fort served as an intermediate railway stop between Salt Lake City and the city of Los Angeles. It was surrounded by 5-meter walls that stretched around it for 46 meters. The fort also served to protect settlers from the Indians.

The park is currently just north of Fremont Street. It is the only park in the United States where the first buildings were the first ever built in the city.
