Colorado Street Bridge

2-128 S Arroyo Blvd, Pasadena, CA 91105, United States

Description:

One of the many architectural attractions of Los Angeles is the Colorado Street Bridge, located in the Pasadena area. It is a beautiful arched structure extending over Arroyo Seco Canyon. The bridge was designed and built in 1913 by Waddell & Harrington. Its length is 453 meters, and its width is 12 meters.

The structure is well lit, along its entire length there are neat small lights that ensure safe movement even at night. It was originally called Colorado Boulevard. The design is listed on the Los Angeles Register of Historic Sites and is protected by the California State Government.

At the beginning of the twentieth century, the Colorado Street Bridge became known as the “Suicide Bridge” after about 10 people committed suicide here in a year. After these incidents, local authorities decided to build a protective barrier on it, about 2 meters high. In 1993, a large-scale reconstruction of the structure was carried out. Every year in the summer, the bridge is closed during the festival in the Pasadena area.
