Gerald Desmond Bridge, Seaside Fwy, Long Beach, CA 90802, USA

Description:

The Gerald Desmond Bridge is an important link in the transportation system of Los Angeles and the United States. It is an arched bridge designed by the California Department of Transportation in collaboration with Shimmick Inc, FCC Construcci n and Impregilo SpA. The construction lasted 5 years, it was spent 649.5 million dollars.

The construction of the building was completed in 1965. It has been an integral part of the local infrastructure for almost half a century. It is located on Highway 710 in Long Beach, and is named after public figure and former lawyer Gerald Desmond. The length of the bridge is 120 meters, the main span is 47 meters.

In March 2012, the 47-meter height was not enough to allow the largest container ship to pass under it. After that, an increase in the main span was planned.

Today it is one of the most beautiful bridges in Los Angeles. It hangs over the city’s largest river, the Serritos, like a rainbow.
