Crendon Park

6747 Crandon Blvd, Key Biscayne, FL 33149, USA

Description:

Crendon Park is located in the northern part of Biscayne Island and covers an area of more than three square kilometers of former coconut plantations. In 1940, the Matheson family donated some of their coconut plantations to a public park. County Commissioner Charles Crendon has promised to build a dam off Biscayne Island. Construction was delayed due to World War II, but the dam was opened in 1947. The park is connected to the mainland by the Rickenbacker-Kosway toll road.

Crendon Park is home to the renowned International Tennis Centre, which has hosted professional tennis tournaments for men and women every year since 1987. Since 2007, the tournament has been called the Sony Ericsson Open. This stadium is designed for 13300 seats. In March 2013, matches of the tennis tournament from Miami were broadcast in 193 countries of the world, and the prize pool amounted to about 5 million dollars.

At the northern end of Crendon Park is the Biscayne Nature Center, where it is fashionable to see historical exhibits, demonstration objects, audiovisual presentations telling about the history, nature and people who inhabited these places. There is a souvenir shop nearby.
