Barnacle National Historic Park

3485 Main Highway Miami, FL 33133, United States

Description:

Barnacle National Historic Park is one of Miami’s most famous landmarks, located south of downtown in the Coconut Grove area. This area became part of the city only in the 20s of the last century. The park is the oldest house in Miami, built in 1891 by Ralph Monroe, a famous shipbuilder and yachtsman. Ralph Monroe lived on his estate for about 30 years and during that time designed and built 56 different yachts for the residents of Miami. He is also the founder of the Coconut Grove and the Biscayne Bay Yacht Club.

Ralph Monroe Manor is a one-story building raised above the ground on wooden stilts. Barnacle translates to "Mollusk". The central room of the hexagonal shape resembled mollusks, which are attached to the underwater part of the ships.

During the full moon period, the park regularly hosts concerts called the Barnacle in the Moonlight. On the green lawns of the park you can have a picnic.
