Fruit and Spice Park
24801 Southwest 187th Avenue, Homestead, FL 33031
Description:
Fruit and Spice Park is located 32 kilometers from Miami. It occupies 15 hectares of land in the Redland agricultural community, so named because of the reddish color of the soil. More than 500 varieties of fruit plants, nuts and spices are planted in the park, including 150 varieties of mango, 75 varieties of bananas, 70 varieties of bamboo, 40 varieties of grapes. Here grow exotic fruits lychee, guava, jackfruit, sapodilla and many others. Visitors can also collect fallen fruit in the park. Picking fruit from trees is prohibited. Plants with poisonous fruits are fenced for safety.
The main entrance to the park and the gift shop are a replica of the original schoolhouse, where the children of the first settlers and railway workers studied at the beginning of the last century. It was in the building of the school that a meeting of residents took place in 1907, at which it was decided to name these lands Redland.
Near the park there is a famous shop-fair "Robert is here", which often arranges tastings of exotic fruits and berries.
