Winter is a great time to visit the capital of the world.
At a time when less discerning tourists are warming their sides on the crowded beaches of Third World countries, New Yorkers and visitors are enjoying the gifts of civilization.
Winter (November – early March) is the long-awaited culmination of cultural “seasons”: at this time there are many first-class art exhibitions, important theatrical, opera and ballet events, the annual Christmas show in Radio City Music Hall, the peak of auction activity Christie’s, Sotheby’s, Swann, Phillips, etc. The days and weeks leading up to federal and religious holidays such as Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year’s Day, M.L. King’s Day, President’s Day, Valentine’s Day, etc., have an unprecedented sale – if shopping is among your interests, the best time to visit New York is hard to find!
In the winter months, the release of new products of many companies producing electronic and photographic equipment is necessary. In addition, New York is fabulously beautiful in winter! It is worth visiting the city, at least for a walk in Central Park. (Note that Central is not the largest park in New York City; there are more than 1,700 parks in New York City.) Other traditional New York winter funs include skating at Rockefeller Center (or another of the city’s dozen outdoor skating rinks), visiting the Minus 5 Ice Bar, swimming in the ocean on Coney Island, participating in a performance of G. F. Handel’s Messiah (your friends will turn green with envy to learn that you sang at Carnegie Hall or the Philharmonic!).
In winter, New York hosts the “Beer Week”, a winter jazz festival, a colossal exhibition of train models, an orchid exhibition, a parade on St. Patrick’s Day, the largest and most authoritative dog exhibition (Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show), the celebration of the Lunar New Year, the world-famous “Armory Show”, the Whitney Museum Biennale and much more.
Winter in New York is quite mild: the average temperature of November is +8 ° C, December +3 ° C, January -3 ° C, February 0 ° C, March +8 ° C.
