Flashing Meadows Park

Avenue of Africa, Corona, NY 11368, United States

Description:

Flashing Meadows Crown Park, which covers about five square kilometers, is the central park of Queens. It was here that the two largest international exhibitions took place - in 1939-1940 and in 1964-1965. Thanks to such large events, the park has undergone significant changes, adding expressiveness and comfort to visitors. On the territory of the park there is a baseball court, as well as the National Tennis Center, on the courts of which the matches of the US Tennis Open championship are held. Since 2008, a water center has been operating in the park.

One of the main attractions of the park is the sculpture "Unisfera", as well as the Queens Museum of Art. Among its exhibits is a large-scale model of New York. This is the largest architectural model created by human hands to date. In addition, the park has a theater, a science hall and a small zoo. Time capsules were buried in the park in 1938 and 1965. They were made of special alloy and laid for future generations. Each capsule contains detailed information about life in the United States in the twentieth century.
