Roosevelt Island Bridge

Roosevelt Island Bridge, Long Island City, NY, USA

Description:

The Roosevelt Island Bridge is a drawbridge across the East River Strait connecting the New York area of Queens and Roosevelt Island. This bridge is the only way to get to the island for cars and pedestrians. The bridge was opened in 1955.

Currently, the Roosevelt Island Bridge is a relatively small steel structure consisting of three spans. The total length of the bridge is 878 meters, the width is 12 meters. It consists of a two-lane roadway, on both sides of which there are pedestrian sidewalks. The traffic of the bridge per day is 10.5 thousand cars. The passage of ships through the strait is ensured only when the bridge is fully raised, so large vessels mainly pass through the west arm of the East River.

The bridge offers a picturesque view of the canal against the background of New York, which attracts local residents and visitors to the city.
