High Bridge
High Bridge, Manhattan, New York, United States of America
Description:
The High Bridge in New York, whose official name is the Aqueduct Bridge, is a steel arch bridge 40 meters high, located above the Harlem River, which connects the urban areas of the Bronx and Manhattan.
The Bridge Aqueduct was officially closed in the seventies of the last century, but was not dismantled and is an architectural monument of the late 19th century. Construction lasted from 1837 to 1848, when due to the increased flow of traffic there was a need for a new large bridge. So he worked until the mid-70s, until he came into emergency condition.
For a long time, he did not act until in 2009, the city authorities began to restore the High Bridge, opening a special fund for the transfer of funds from ordinary citizens. So far, it is planned to restore it only for walking and cycling. How long it will take for the Aqueduct Bridge to turn into a functioning bridge again is unknown, but in early 2010 a contract was signed with an engineering company from Liechtenstein, which is already closely engaged in reconstruction.
