Cloyster Museum

99 Margaret Corbin Drive, Fort Trion Park

About the company:

The Kloyster Museum is an integral part of the Metropolitan Museum. It is located in northern Manhattan in Fort Trion Park on the banks of the Hudson River. The initiator of the creation of the Kloyster Museum was the younger Rockefeller. The entire collection of the museum consists exclusively of art objects of the Middle Ages.

A special place is occupied by the manuscript of 1409, illustrated by the Limburg brothers. Here is kept the famous Romanesque cross, once decorated the altar of a medieval church. The most beautiful tapestries, is a series of images, united by the name “Hunting a Unicorn”. In the museum you can also see ancient jewelry, sarcophagi, sculptures of saints and much more. Almost the entire collection dates from the XII-XV century.

The museum was opened in 1938. This place used to be a French monastery with four buildings adjacent to it, which served as a frame for the museum.
