Trip to St. Augustine

Description:

I invite you on a day trip to the town of St. Augustine (or, as it is otherwise called, St. Augustine), located in Florida. Today it is the oldest surviving European city in the United States. Saint Augustine was founded by the Spanish in the 16th century (1565). For tourists, the city is interesting for its architectural monuments: the history of many of its buildings has more than one hundred years!

Within 200 years of its founding, St. Augustine was the site of several battles between the Spaniards (who originally owned it) and the British and French (who were trying to consolidate their position on the newly discovered continent). Especially famous fort San Marcos. Today it is the oldest fortress in the United States, built of stone.

The city belonged to the Spanish until 1821, that is, until the official accession of Florida to the United States. A tour of St. Augustine will allow you to feel the historical spirit of the city. You can admire its narrow and very picturesque streets, cobblestone paved roads, shell-built houses and stone buildings built 2-3 centuries ago.

During the trip you will visit Castille de Saint-Marcos, an ancient Spanish fort that is perfectly preserved to our time. Its walls are still strong and reliable: a thickness of 4 m and a height of 10 m would allow them to repel a sudden attack of the enemy. After exploring the fortress located in Matanzas Bay, you will get acquainted with one of the most interesting Spanish fortifications on the American continent.

The program of visiting St. Augustine necessarily includes a tour of the oldest buildings of wood and stone, preserved today in America. Each of them has a long history (built around the 17th-18th centuries). In the list of interesting places in the city we call Lightner Museum, Spanish Quarter Village (known quarter of Spain) and Flagler College (Flegler College). At your request, our guide will give you a tour in these places worthy of your attention.

A trip to St. Augustine is an opportunity for a few hours to plunge into the interesting history of colonization of the United States.
