San Francisco

Alcatraz

Description:

First we are waiting for a small marvelous sea voyage by ship to Alcatraz. After seeing the panoramic views of San Francisco and arriving on the island, we will climb to the oldest building of the prison castle, formerly one of the strictest prisons, and now converted into a museum.

We will certainly visit the cameras, which at one time terrified the most dangerous criminals, the dining room and even the isolation center - a frequent residence of Al Capone. 36 inmates tried to escape Alcatraz, 14 attempted escapes, and it remains a mystery whether some were successful. Historians are still debating the outcome of the most famous escape in 1962, a year after which the prison was closed for good.

The Spanish name of the island “Alcatraz” literally translates as “Pelican”: there are plenty of birds of the same name here. On the observation deck we will have a view of them, hovering for a long time in the sky, and on the picturesque urban and island landscapes.
