Mysterious, amazing, frightening, mystical, but at the same time alluring ... all these epithets can be attributed to the description of a small island located in the Bay of San Francisco.
Description of the tour:
The excursion to Alcatraz begins with a tour of the picturesque fishing promenade, from where boats sail to the island. You will make a pleasant sea trip to the island on a boat, from where you will have an amazing panorama of the city. Arriving on the so-called “Pelican Island”, you will climb the mountain, where the prison castle, which functioned at the beginning of the century and has long been closed, is located.
You will have a unique opportunity to personally inspect the cells, the dining room and even the insulator, the frequent abode of the famous Al Capone and other equally obstinate guests of the prison. You will learn a lot of interesting facts about this once deserted island and its history. For example, in the entire history of the prison, about 34 prisoners tried to escape from it, and in 1962 the most famous escape of Morris and the Anglins was made, the fate of the participants of which is still behind the veil of secrecy.
Going to the site, you can admire the open view of the city, its bridges, islands and pelicans, the Spanish name of which was once called this place. Alcatraz is now part of the United States Natural Reserve System.
