Bay Bridge

San Francisco Bridge - Oakland, San Francisco, CA

Description:

The Bay Bridge is one of the longest and most beautiful bridges in the world. It was built in 1936 at a high angle, making it as vulnerable as possible. Today, almost eighty years after the construction of the bridge began, its weariness is noticeable with the naked eye. A major role in this was played by the earthquake that struck San Francisco in 1989.

Since 1993, a new bridge has been built parallel to the Bay Bridge, which in 2013 will completely replace the old Bay Bridge. The reality is that within the next two decades, a new earthquake is expected to hit San Francisco, which the old Bay Bridge is unlikely to survive. Over six billion dollars have already been spent on the construction of the new bridge.
