Ocean Beach

Ocean beach, Great Hwy, San Francisco, CA 94116251

Description:

Ocean beach narrow sand strip stretches along the west coast of San Francisco. There is a high-speed highway along the beach.

In the northern part of the beach are the ruins of a private pool, built in the XIX century and destroyed by fire in 1966. There is a commemorative plaque on which the history of the creation and development of the Sutro Bath pool is written.

Just behind the ruins is a parking lot and a restaurant, and on the edge of the observation deck by the restaurant stands a giant camera obscura. The southern part of the beach is deserted and covered from the shore by a park massif. There are few swimmers on this beach, but many surfers, and there are hang gliders descending through the air from the slopes in the southern part of Ocean beach. The fact is that there is a phenomenon of upwelling, or the rise of deep waters. Cold waters from the depths of the ocean constantly replace warm waters near the coast, so swimming here is almost impossible, but for surf lovers the place is suitable.
