Muti-Muti Reserve

Swaziland/Siteki

Description:

The Muti Muti Reserve, located near Siteka, the capital of mountaineers and border guards, is a unique place used by active practitioners and healers of the Inyang and Sangoma schools to collect a variety of herbs used in their work ("muti" can be roughly translated as "magic" and "medicine" simultaneously).

The city of Siteki is located on the road to the Lebombo Mountains. Here tourists can see the picturesque foothills and plains covered with forest. The town used to be a small village of Stegi. The name of the city was given by Mbandzeni, the great-grandfather of the current king. A large number of border guards lived in the settlement. The king only allowed them to marry here. The name of the city translates as “married on the spot”. Currently, Siteki is a major commercial and cultural center.

Siteki is famous for its schools of Inyang and Sangoma. Here they are trained on healers and connoisseurs of traditional medicine. Tourists can visit these schools if they have agreed in advance.
