Dushanbe

Tour of Dushanbe and the surrounding area for 3 days

Description:

Day 1: Dushanbe

After lunch, we begin a tour of Dushanbe. We have plenty of time to discover Dushanbe. Place to visit today:

  • Rudaki Park: Dushanbe’s most beautiful park is next to the National Museum. Its tree-lined walkways have everything from the Palace of Nations (where the president works) to things as eccentric as the world's second-tallest flagpole. Visit the museum after visiting the museum, but know that at night the park really comes to life.
  • Nowruz Palace: The Royal Palace, which was nowhere else, with incredible decoration inside.
  • Mehrgon Bazaar: A large bazaar in the north of the city where you can buy everything from cube-chopped fresh carrots to stuffed dried dates.
  • Independence Square: a new park with a 124-meter tower. From the top of the tower you can see the whole city of Dushanbe and the surrounding area. The park and tower were built in honor of the 32nd anniversary of Independence of Tajikistan. It is currently considered the most beautiful park in Tajikistan.

National Museum: The museum has several interesting collections that you will enjoy: some frescoes from Old Penjikent and the entire upper floor with unique works by Tajik artists.

Day 2: Dushanbe - Nurek Reservoir and Dam (90 km; 1.5 hours) - Hissarsk fortress (120 km; 2.5 hours) - return to Dushanbe

After breakfast, leave for Nurek Reservoir.

Nurek Dam was built in 1980 on the Vakhsh River 75 km east of the capital of Tajikistan Dushanbe. It is currently the highest dam in the world, the highest point of which is 310 m above its base. The volume of the mound is 54 million m3. The collected waters rotate nine hydropower plants and produce most of Tajikistan’s 4.0 GW hydroelectric power plants, providing 98% of the country’s electricity needs. It is located between two mountain ranges that actually make up the western starting point of the Pamir Mountains to the east.

After visiting Nurek, we return to Dushanbe. A little trip to Hissar fortress, museum and madrasah. Departure outside the city (26 km) to the remains of the Hissar fortress of the 18th century. Visit two local madrasahs and mausoleums. Return to Dushanbe.

Day 3: Dushanbe - Lake Iskanderkul (134 km; 3 hours) - Dushanbe (134 km; 3 hours)

Breakfast at your hotel. A trip to Lake Iskanderkul through the Anzob Pass through the 5-kilometer Istiqlol tunnel. According to legend, Lake Iskanderkul was named after Alexander the Great, known in the East as Iskander. It is said that the route of Alexander the Great to India passed through this lake. After that, you will walk to the 50-meter waterfall, which the locals compare to Niagara and called Fan Niagara (Niagara Fana). There are also active boats on which you can take a boat tour of the lake. The shore of the lake is estimated at 40 km and a depth of 70 m. After exploring the lake, we return to Dushanbe.
