Belvedere Park

2 km from the end of Habib Bourguiba Avenue

Description:

Belvedere Park is the largest park in Tunisia, built in 1892 by the project of Joseph Lafasade, who was then the chief gardener of Paris. The park has kindly provided its delightful expanses to the endless green massif, which includes 80 plant species and more than 230,000 trees, characteristic representatives of the African fauna living in the zoo.

In addition to animals that are popular among tourists, the zoo located in the southern part of the park sheltered an artificial lake and an ancient midha (washing room) of the XVII century, which was transported here from the medina in 1900.

In the center of Belvedere there is the famous alabaster gazebo Kubba - a monument of ancient Arab architecture, at the same time a place of rest and an observation deck. The architecture of the gazebo is interesting: Italian columns of white marble with Doric capitals, Moorish-Spanish stucco decorations and Tunisian ceramics.
