Independent tourism and recreation in the city of Kusadasy Historical information about the city of Kusadasy A...
Antiquity and antiquity
The territory of modern Kusadasi was inhabited in the Bronze Age: the population associated with the tribes of Lelegy and Karina came here about 2000 BC from the mountainous part of Anatolia.
Later, around the first millennium BC, the influence of the Ionians came here. Within the modern district of the city there were ancient settlements: Phygale, Marathesion, Neopolis.
In 546 BC, the region was captured by Persia.
During the period of the Roman Republic and subsequent empire, it came under the rule of Rome. When the Roman Empire was divided into West and East, the territory was part of Byzantium.
An interesting detail: due to serious natural changes (earthquakes, changes in the course of the Kaistros river), the port city of Ephesus loses its former status. As a result, Byzantium is looking for a new port, which becomes the region around Neopolis – sometimes referred to as Scala Nova.
Middle Ages and the Ottoman Period
After the Byzantine period, the region was influenced by Genoa, Venice - trading maritime powers. For example, in the 15th century Scala Nova was actively used by the Genoese and Venetians.
In 1413, the city and surroundings were annexed to the Ottoman Empire under the rule of Sultan Mehmed I (Chelebi).
During the Ottoman period, significant architectural structures were built: the caravanserai Öküz Mehmed Paşa Kervansarayı (1615-1618). Also fortifications around the city, city gates, walls.
The name "Kushadasi" (literally "Island of Birds") is associated with the islet of Güvercinada, which was a military and sea support of the Byzantines and later the Ottomans.
New and new times
In the first half of the XX century, during the Turkish War of Independence, the city was occupied first by Italian and then by Greek troops. On September 7, 1922, Kusadasi was released.
Until 1954, the territory belonged to the province of Izmir, then it was included in the province of Aydin.
In the postwar years, Kusadasi began to develop rapidly as a resort city: a mild climate, a convenient location on the Aegean coast, proximity to ancient Ephesus - all this contributed to tourism.
On the western coast of Turkey, where the Aegean Sea shimmers with all shades of blue, lies the city of Kuşadası – a cozy, bright and lively resort combining ancient history, oriental flavor and modern amenities. Its name translates as "Island of Birds", and indeed: at first glance Kusadasi seems light, sunny and free, like a seagull over the sea.
Beaches and sea
Kusadasi is famous for its clean beaches with soft sand and clear water. Here everyone will find a place to like:
Ladies Beach (Kadinlar Denizi) is the most popular beach with soft sand, cafes and promenades.
