Defender of the Fatherland Day

Armed Forces Day in Ukraine is celebrated on December 6. During the Soviet Union, February 23 was the Day of the Soviet Army and Navy.
President Leonid Kuchma instructed to hold the celebration of the Defender of the Fatherland Day on February 23.
The Cabinet of Ministers, the Ministry of Culture and Arts, the Ministry of Defense, the Kyiv City State Administration were instructed to ensure the organization and holding of solemn meetings and festive concerts on the occasion of the Defender of the Fatherland Day in the National Palace “Ukraine”.
The President also instructed the Defense Ministry, the Council of Ministers of Crimea, regional, Kyiv and Sevastopol city administrations to ensure the holding of festive fireworks on February 23 in Kiev and Sevastopol, regional centers, hero cities.
On February 23, congratulations are received by war veterans and servicemen, our grandfathers, fathers, brothers.
Celebrating this traditional holiday, we pay tribute and gratitude to those who bravely defended their native land from invaders, as well as those who in peacetime perform difficult and responsible service.
