Labor Day (Labor Day)
Description:
On May 1, 1886, American workers went on strike demanding an 8-hour day. The strike and the accompanying demonstration ended in a bloody clash with police.
In July 1889, the Paris Congress of the Second International decided to hold annual demonstrations on May 1 in memory of the Chicago workers’ speech. The first International Workers’ Solidarity Day was celebrated in 1890 in Austria-Hungary, Belgium, Germany, Denmark, Spain, Italy, USA, Norway, France, Sweden and some other countries. For a long time, May Day was a symbol of revolution, of irreconcilable class struggle.
In the USSR, May Day for many years was the main state holiday. On May 1, 1990, the leadership of the Soviet Union and the CPSU for the last time rose to the podium of the Mausoleum for the last official May Day demonstration. In 1992, the International Day of Workers’ Solidarity was renamed the Spring and Labor Day. In the world, May Day is still celebrated as a proletarian holiday of solidarity.
In Ukraine, this holiday is set aside for two days, which allows you to arrange large festivities, visit each other and go to nature with families.
