World Meteorology Day

Description:

World Meteorology Day
The main goals of the World Meteorological Organization are to improve meteorological observations, improve climate modeling in order to reduce the uncertainty characteristic of long-term climate forecasts. WMO assists countries in using climate data and seasonal forecasts.

It is believed that our domestic weather service has existed since January 1, 1872, when the first "Daily Meteorological Bulletin" was issued with a weather report of 26 Russian and 2 foreign stations. The creation of the Hydrometeorological Service of Ukraine and organized activities began on June 21, 1921, after the adoption by the Council of People's Commissars of the Decree on the organization of the Weather Service.

Today, the hydrometeorological service of Ukraine is a structure that includes the Hydrometeorological Center of Ukraine, regional centers for hydrometeorology, universities, research institutes, a network of meteorological stations and hydroposts, laboratories for monitoring the state of atmospheric air.

In 2003, by the Decree of the President of Ukraine, the day of November 19 was established as the day of employees of the hydrometeorological service of Ukraine.
