All-Ukrainian Day against Tuberculosis

Description:

Stop TB together!

In order to intensify activities to prevent the emergence and spread of tuberculosis, taking into account the recommendations of the World Health Organization and in support of the initiative of the public movement “Ukrainians against tuberculosis”, the President of Ukraine by decree No. 290/2002 of 22.03.2002 established the All-Ukrainian Day against Tuberculosis, which is held annually on March 24.

About 3 million people die from tuberculosis every year.

In many parts of the world, the disease got out of control, and in August 1993, the World Health Organization declared tuberculosis to be a “global emergency.”

In Ukraine, the epidemic of tuberculosis has been declared since 1995.

According to official data, the number of patients with tuberculosis in Ukraine is 1.4% of the population, that is, about 700 thousand people, and according to expert estimates - about 1.5 million.

In addition to sick people in Ukraine there are about 26-27 thousand farm animals with tuberculosis.

One of the steps of the state to overcome the epidemic of tuberculosis in Ukraine was the creation of the Coordination Council of the country for disease control.

Public organizations of Ukraine, which are concerned with the issues of overcoming the tuberculosis epidemic, have united in the International Coalition of organizations “Stop TB Together!” and, having analyzed the current situation, have submitted a number of significant proposals for overcoming the epidemic in Ukraine.
