Trinity cathedral

ooh Glory, Cherkasy, Cherkasy region, Ukraine

Description:

Holy Trinity Church was built in Cherkasy in early 1671 with the blessing of Metropolitan Joseph. A hundred years later, the temple underwent reconstruction, and in 1963, on the site of a wooden structure, a solid stone building was erected near the present Hill of Glory. In 1964, the Cherkasy City Executive Committee decided to remove the church community from registration, and transfer the premises of the Trinity Church to a sports club. Soon the Holy Trinity Church was determined for demolition, in connection with the beginning of construction on the Hill of Glory of a grandiose memorial monument.

By the decision of the Cherkasy diocese and city authorities in 1991, the restoration of the Holy Trinity Cathedral began, and now it is one of the main attractions of Cherkasy. The central building and the bell tower of the cathedral are decorated with many beautiful arches with stained glass windows, but the main decoration of the temple are gilded domes shimmering in the sun. Nowadays, the monastery is open to parishioners, tourists and pilgrims every day from 08:00 to 19:00. Divine services are held here on Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays, as well as on church holidays.
