Catherine

Ukraine, Chernihiv, Alley of Heroes, 6-a

Description:

The Catherine Church, located in the historical center of Chernihiv, is a vivid example of Ukrainian stone architecture of the Left Bank of the 17-18 centuries and a national monument.

The temple was erected in memory of the heroic assault of Azov in 1696 by the Cossacks of the Chernihiv regiment. The church, being one of the Chernihiv architectural dominants, is located on a high cape.

The baroque brick temple has a cross-shaped structure. The peculiarity of the church is in its all-facade. There are north, south and east entrance portals. Window openings and baroque entrances of the church are framed by casings, triangular pedimentaries, small-profiled eaves of leukal brick. Inside the temple, you can observe overlaps with halls, large arches, the absence of choirs and horizontal structures.
