Description:
Svyatonikolaevskaya church in Chernivtsi was built in 1607. This wooden church is the oldest building in the city, preserved to this day. The church was built in the so-called hut style, characteristic of Bukovina at that time. The building was built at the expense of the head of Stroeskul.
The church is a one-story building without a dome. The churchhouse is made of oak bars, and three wrought-iron crosses are located on the walled roof. Earlier, next to the church there was a bell tower with three bells, on the site of which in 1868 a walled bell tower was built, which can be seen today.
According to local legends, hetmans Petro Sagaidachny and Ivan Mazepa prayed in this church at different times, and the eldest son of Bogdan Khmelnitsky was also allegedly buried in it.
In 1963, the temple was included in the list of architectural monuments. The church is active, there are services.
