Amur Bridge
Ukraine, Dnipropetrovsk, Amur Bridge
Description:
Amur Bridge is the oldest bridge in Dnepropetrovsk. It was built in 1884 and was the longest bridge in Europe. The project was created by academician M.A. Belelyubsky.
The bridge is a two-tiered structure weighing about 9525 tons, a little more than one and a half kilometers long and 15.5 meters wide. The uniqueness of the bridge is that it was made without a single weld. During its history, the Amur Bridge was destroyed twice, after which it was restored.
In 1935, trams were launched across the bridge. In 1956, the first trolley bus and a little later a bus passed here.
Every year the load on the bridge increased, so later, next to the old Amur Bridge, a new railway metal bridge was built.
