Description:

Shevchenko Park is the central park of Dnepropetrovsk. It was founded at the end of the XVIIIth century on the site of a winter garden with a large fruit garden, owned by Esaul Lazar Globa.

In the 1790s, a magnificent palace and park ensemble of the residence of G.A. Potemkin was created here. In the second half of the XIX-early XX century, the park was one of the main places of recreation of citizens. After reconstruction in 1925-1935, the Park of Culture and Recreation named after T. G. Shevchenko was founded. In 1963, the entrance fee for visiting the park was abolished - before that it was necessary to pay 30 cents. The last global reconstruction of the park took place between 1971 and 1974. Since 1990, the park has been recognized as a monument of landscape art of the national level.

The total area of the park together with the Monastery Island is 36 hectares. Its territory is divided into coastal and island zones. On the shore there are playgrounds, a summer theater and the Palace of Students. And on the island there are a zoo, attractions, freshwater fish aquarium, water sports bases and beaches. The island part is connected to the coastal pedestrian bridge and suspension cable car.
