Description:
The monastery island is an island on the Dnieper in the city of Dnepropetrovsk. The name of the island changed several times - in the XIX century - Burakovsky and Bogomolovsky, and since 1926 - Komsomolsky.
Territorially, the island belongs to the Central Park of Culture and Recreation named after T. G. Shevchenko. The island is connected to the city by a cable car and a pedestrian bridge.
In 1958, a monument to Taras Grigorievich Shevchenko was erected on the island - one of the largest monuments in the country. In 1999, the Orthodox Church of St. Nicholas was built in the northern part of the island.
The first mention of this island is found in Slavic chronicles dating from the end of the first millennium. History has secured for the island the glory of the cradle of Russian Christianity.
