Nikolaev Church
Ukraine, Dnepropetrovsk, St. October, 108
Description:
Nikolaev Church in Dnepropetrovsk is the oldest temple of the city. The stone church was built in Novy Kodaki instead of the previously existing wooden Cossack church from 1650.
In the summer of 1807, in Novy Kodak (Dnepropetrovsk), Archpriest John Stanislavsky consecrated the ground for the church, and a cross was installed at the place of future works. Construction took three years. The St. Nicholas Church has a strongly elongated branch on the west side and a semicircular apse. There are square extensions around the temple building. Above the central part of the church stands an octagonal dome with an unusual flashlight with an onion. The construction of the temple was completed in 1810.
In the thirties, the church was closed and an ammunition depot was placed in its building. During the Great Patriotic War, the church resumed its activities. In 2004, a Sunday school was opened here.
Today, the church is open for services, inviting all believers to pray. The church is especially beautiful and solemn during major religious holidays.
