Gurov Square
Ukraine, Donetsk region, Donetsk, Voroshilov district, between Theatralny and Gurova avenues.
Description:
Almost in the center of the mining capital of Ukraine, the city of Donetsk, there is a green square of Gurov. It received its name in honor of the Soviet Army General Kuzma Gurov.
Naturally, the main hero of the square is the monument to the lieutenant general installed on it. During the Great Patriotic War, this man was a member of the council of the Southern Front, participated in the battles for the liberation of Stalingrad and Donbass. Gurov died heroically in the middle of World War II and was buried in the center of Donetsk. After the war, a cast-iron bust-monument was installed on his grave.
No less important attraction of the square can be called a military tank T-34. This combat vehicle was installed at the burial place of Grinkevich, the commander-in-chief of the tank forces. It was his tanks that first entered the city during the operation to liberate Donbass. In 1964, a sculptural marble composition appeared on the grave – a pedestal for a tank and a plate with words about the eternal memory of the heroes-liberators of Donbass.
