Ukraine, Donetsk, Kalininsky district, Fallen Communards St

Description:

Memorial complex Shurf mine No4/4-bis immortalized the memory of those who died during the mass execution by the fascist occupiers in the Great Patriotic War. In terms of mass, this place ranks second in Ukraine after the tragedy of Babi Yar. According to various estimates, 75-100 thousand civilians died here. In a non-working abandoned mine pit, executed people were brought from all over the city, and people were thrown alive. After the liberation from the occupation of the city, work began to recover the bodies. Only 150 people have been identified. Most of the remains are buried in a shuffle.

The memorial complex, created in 1983, is located in Donetsk near the 4-4 bis mine, which became the place of tragedy and a mass grave. The memorial in the form of a pit with a developing stone flag and an overturned trolley is accompanied by a memorial plaque. Sculptors worked on the project: Petrikin V.I. and Kiselev V.G.
