Nikolaev Church in Svyatogorsk State Historical and Architectural Reserve

Ukraine, 84130, Svyatogorsk, Donetsk region, str. Zarechna, 3. SGIAZ territory.

Description:

Another wonderful temple located on the territory of the Svyatogorsk Reserve is the Nikolaev Church, located on a chalk rock. The architecture of the temple is made in the style of Ukrainian Baroque, XVII century.

The Nikolaev church is one-nave and has three domes: the eastern dome is chalk, the central one is made of brick, and the western one is made of wood. The temple has an interesting solution of the altar part - it is carved out of chalk. The church has an unusual compositional idea: the chalk cliff exquisitely echoes the beautiful picturesque panorama. The construction of the temple began after the collapse of the top of the rock, with a cave church located on it. Unfortunately, the names of the construction authors are not known.

In 1844, after the reopening of the monastery, the church "survived" the reconstruction. At the same time, the stylistic differences of the temple were preserved. During the Great Patriotic War (1941-1945), the monument suffered significant damage: the bell tower was destroyed. Work on the restoration of the Nicholas Church was carried out in 1984-1989.
