Holy Sunday Temple
Ukraine, Slavyansk, str. Solzavodskaya, 17.
Description:
Holy Resurrection Church is one of the oldest religious buildings of the Ukrainian city of Slavyansk. It was founded in 1775 on the picturesque shore of the salty Old Maidan Lake. Among believers, this temple is known as the place where the Holy Righteous John of Kronstadt conducted liturgies.
Initially, a wooden church was built, but in the XIX century, at the expense of philanthropist Stepan Sergeevich Taranov-Beloozerov and ordinary citizens, a stone three-chair church was erected. During the Soviet era, the Holy Resurrection Church was closed and even used as a warehouse and a local club. During the Great Patriotic War, the temple was opened for a short time: it was here that the monks came after the closure of the Lavra.
Only after the collapse of the USSR, restoration work began. Domes and a bell tower have been installed, and all believers can visit the liturgy and pray before the ancient icons returned by St. Petersburg monks. These are miraculous images: a copy of the Iberian icon of the Athos letter of 1903 and the image of the “Inextinguishable Kubin”, created in 1822 in gratitude from saving the city from a fire.
