Artem Street
Donetsk, Donetsk region, Ukraine
Description:
Artem Street is the main street of Donetsk, its central highway. In the late eighties of the 19th century, it was the only street under construction, which was called the First Line. According to some reports, the pre-war street started a little further south.
In the 30s, the street was renamed in honor of the famous revolutionary figure F. Sergeev, better known under the pseudonym "Comrade Artem". He was an active party figure, chairman of the Donetsk provincial executive committee, founder of the Soviet Donetsk-Krivoy Rog Republic. To the 50th anniversary of the formation of the Soviet state on the border of the Kirov and Voroshilov districts was erected a monument to Fedor Andreevich Sergeev.
The street originates at the gate of the Donetsk Metallurgical Plant and stretches to the central entrance of the railway station. For ten kilometers along it there are many large shopping centers, modern boutiques, luxury hotels and restaurants, offices of large business companies, many banks. On the main street there was a place for administrative buildings, a drama theater and a philharmonic, major universities and large libraries.
Here is built the central city square named after Lenin with its unique architectural ensemble from the monument to Lenin, a musical fountain, a gazebo for lovers and sculpture "Youth", as well as a spacious pedestrian zone.
