V. Garshin Memorial Museum

Donetsk region, Artemovsk district, Pereezdnoye village

About the company:

Museum V. Garshin in the village of Pereeznoe in 1985 was created not by chance. The fact of the birth in 1855 in the landlord's estate - Pleasant Valley (not preserved, territorially located within the current boundaries of the village of Perezdnoye) - a writer whose works ("Traveler Frog", "Artists", "Red Flower") are well known even abroad, established and proved by the famous local historian Artemovsk V. Zamkova.

Working from the first Garshin readings, this unusual school museum deserves special attention. With reverent love for several generations of researchers of Vsevolod Grashin’s work, the museum contains unique and rare objects related to the life of the writer and his family. Among them is a rare photo of the unpreserved family estate of the Garshins - "Pleasant Valley" on the introductory stand, covering the Bakhmut and Old Belian periods of the life of young Seva Garshin. There are also coats of arms of noble families of the father and mother of the writer, their photos, photos of nine-year-old Garshin-gymnasist. As well as original letters, drawings and manuscripts of the writer.

Of particular pride, however, are the family heirlooms donated to the museum by Garshin’s grandnephew. These are table clocks made in Paris, adorned on an old desk, and a snuffbox, and a written ink device with a sandbox, and books published during the life of the writer himself.

Found on the territory of the Garshin estate, the ancient sundial and the model of the mill are also an integral part of the museum exposition. It is worth noting the painting of the great I. Repin “Ivan the Terrible kills his son.” The fact is that it was from the nature of the writer that the brilliant artist drew the deceased tsarevich, the son of an odious and formidable tsar.

In addition to the marble bust of the writer in the memorial museum, there is another monument to Garshin in the village. The sad soldier, as he was called by his contemporaries, stands at the entrance to the school. The sculptor depicted Garshin in a coat, with his head bowed. The monument was erected in 1995.

Every year, in the school museum, on the anniversary of the writer’s birth (February 14), the Garshin Readings are held. And they all go through different scenarios. The custodians of the cultural heritage of the village of Pereeznoe have been honoring this tradition for 26 years. The museum is open daily from 9.00 to 16.00, except Sunday and Monday.
