Snezhnian Museum of Military Glory

Donetsk region, Snezhnoye, Lenin Street, 7

About the company:

The initiators of the creation of the Snezhnyansk Museum of Military Glory in 1968 were the veterans themselves, who with trepidation gave priceless pieces of their memory to the initial fund of the future museum - triangles of letters, personal belongings of the dead heroes, photos yellowed from time. It is worth noting that this is the only museum of this kind in the Donetsk region. Residents of the first city liberated in Donbass from fascist invaders - city. Snow - carefully preserve the memory of the past, the tragic events in the history of the city and its inhabitants, the bloodiest war in the history of mankind.

The museum fund painstakingly, bit by bit was collected by the residents of the city, relatives and friends of those killed in the battles. Today, the exposition of the museum has more than 13,000 exhibits placed in several thematic halls.

The permanent exposition “Snizhnoye during the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945” is dedicated to such events as the occupation of the city, the liberation of Donbas, Ukraine, other cities of the Soviet Union and Western Europe. Numerous documents and sources, photographs, personal belongings of soldiers, diary of the commander of the 5th Shock Army V. Tsvetaev, various awards for combat merits of soldiers, underground fighters and partisans are collected here.

Not forgotten and the exploits of fellow countrymen-snezhnyans - E. N. Zherdia, V. I. Chumachenko, A. K. Tkachenko, A. V. Balabaev, D. K. Pogrebny and V. E. Chalenko. All of them were awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union.

The central place in the museum is occupied by a full-scale diorama “Storm of Savur-Mohyla, August 1943”.

In a separate exhibition hall, visitors will see an equally significant exposition “Burned by Kandahar”, dedicated to the heroes and events of the war in Afghanistan.

A special merit of the museum staff is the painstaking work to perpetuate the names of the dead, as well as now living combatants. Thousands of names are included in several volumes of the Book of Memory of Ukraine. Also in the center of attention of the museum staff are issues of patriotic education of the younger generation. To this end, thematic remembrance evenings, lessons of courage, literary and musical living rooms are held, giving students and young people the opportunity to communicate directly with participants of the Great Patriotic War.

It is worth noting that for all the time of its existence, the Snezhnyansk Museum of Military Glory has become an integral part of the history and glory of the city of Snezhnoye.
