Donetsk region, Volnovakha, str. May 1, D.4
About the company:
Transformed in 1992 into the state, Volnovakh District Museum of Local Lore began its history as a department of the Donetsk Museum of Local Lore in 1977. Today, its collection includes only about 5000 exhibits, but it is represented by unique objects of life, culture and history of the Ukrainian region.
Three large expositions acquaint visitors with the flora and fauna of the region, with the history and development of the region in the Soviet period (from 1917 to 1990), as well as with the history and archaeology from the Stone Age to the end of the XIX century. It is this hall that fully acquaints visitors to the museum with ethnography and life of the population with its compositional complexes "Rural Ukrainian House of the Middle XIX - early XX century" and "Rural House of Greeks of the Azov Region of the late XIX - early XX century" (by the number of population, the third place in the area is occupied by the Greek diaspora), where collections of clothes, household items with embroidery, ceramics and household items are collected.
The exhibition hall of the museum introduces the visitor to the modern life of the region, its social sphere, the history of its industrial and agro-industrial development. It also tells about famous people who lived in the area.
The mini-collection of samovars is extremely interesting, one of which, made in 1870, was presented at exhibitions in Paris and Vienna, at the All-Russian Manufacture Exhibition in St. Petersburg and received many medals.
The collection of numismatics is also well represented. In the museum, every visitor can see the Kiev silver hryvnia of the late XI century, and coins worth half a penny, one, two, three, five, twenty-five kopecks of different years (the oldest minted in 1773, the newest in 1899), and the silver ruble of 1900, and the silver token of 1904 minted, and even state credit cards of different denominations, issued in 1898-1918.
Deserving of admiration and other items from the Museum. Such as a stone axe of the Bronze Age, arrowheads of the Scythian era, a knife and arrowhead of the Polovets era of the XI-XIII centuries, a necklace of the catacomb culture of the XX-XVI centuries BC, a stone chime of the Bronze Age, an amulet-plate of ancient yam culture of the III millennium BC, equipment for the manufacture of wooden household items.
The museum funds are not large-scale, but significant for the preservation of the cultural and historical heritage of the region. They are replenished with new finds and historical documents. And it is safe to say that the Volnovakh district museum of local lore of Donetsk region has a socially significant function for the development of spirituality and culture among the population and the younger generation of the district.
